Protection Services

The Protection Services Division is responsible for the prevention of crime, the detection and apprehension of offenders, the preservation of peace, and the protection of students, staff and University property.

The University has 24-hour CCTV coverage and security officers on patrol. Mobile vehicle patrols are onsite to ensure the safety and security of Wits’ staff, students and visitors on University campuses.

Wits Integrity Hotline

Report improper, unethical or illegal conduct or activities related to the University without fear of victimisation. The Wits Integrity Hotline team is an independent unit within the University.

Legal Services

The Legal Office acts on behalf of the University on all matters of law excluding employment law.

A crucial aspect of the work of this office is negotiating, drafting, reviewing and approval of contracts with parties outside the University, including national and international bodies. No contract that binds the University may be concluded without sign-off from the Legal office. ?

We provide expert guidance, advice and service to the entire University, including University Management, Faculties, Schools and Departments on all aspects of the law including but not limited to contract law,  intellectual property law, criminal law,  delict, company law and trusts, Provision of legal services to the University on strategic and operational issues including but not limited to the protection of the University's intellectual property, risk management, litigation,  property transactions, insurance, legal compliance, negotiating all types of contracts, student discipline, forensic investigations, university policies and procedures. Property and Infrastructure Management Division (PIMD)

PIMD is responsible for the management and maintenance of University infrastructure, facilities and equipment, including the sustainable management of energy, water usage, and related infrastructure; compliance and maintenance of general machinery to ensure safety; efficient space planning, venue allocations, and ancillary equipment maintenance and replacement; as well as University signage repair, maintenance, and replacement.

The PIMD call centre generates requests relating to building repairs and maintenance issues, such as: 

  • Quotations: repairs & refurbishments
  • Technical: electrical; heating; ventilation; refrigeration; air-conditioning; gas systems; early warning systems; standby generators.
  • Building: painting; glazing; tiling; flooring; blinds; signage; noticeboards; picture hanging; carpentry; plumbing; waterproofing; pull-down screens.
  • Removals: departmental & office "relocations"
  • Roads and paving
  • Lift breakdowns and maintenance
  • Venues: faults and repairs

Biometric wave reader and staff cards
Biometric wave reader

Biometric wave readers are at the perimeter entrances (booms, turnstiles, Libraries and Labs) of all five Wits campuses. All Wits staff are required to register on the system at any of the Kudu Card Offices situated in Solomon Mahlangu House, Ground Floor or at Education Campus, Admin Building, 1st Floor, in order to gain access to campus.

Your 足球竞彩app排名 Kudu Card serves as your official University identity card and should be kept with you at all times on campus. It also provides access to designated spaces, parking areas and printing services. 

Lost or stolen cards should be reported immediately via the following options:

  • Online via Kudu Card Self-Service http://kuducard.wits.ac.za/
  • Protection Services at room CB1 (all hours) in Robert Sobukwe Building.
  • ?Protection Services at the Wits Medical School.
  • The Kudu Card Centre or Technical Security Solutions Office in Solomon Mahlangu building (during working hours). 

Check with Protection Services' Lost and Found division to see if your card has been handed in. They are located in Solomon Mahlangu (between the Kudu Card Centre and the Parking Office).

Abuse and misuse of your 足球竞彩app排名 Kudu Card: If it is determined that your Kudu Card has been abused or misused, your card will be confiscated, and it may lead to disciplinary action. Misuse of your card includes allowing any other person to gain access to, or out of, any facility; allowing another person to make use of your card for any purpose, other than to obtain your details for official university purposes; being in possession of more than one card; and failing to store the card in a manner that will prevent it from being damaged. 

Marketing and Communications

Wits Communications serves as a hub for the facilitation of news and information within and beyond the University. The team is responsible for the University’s strategic communications, internal communications, reputation management and media liaison, and for producing a number of University publications.

Wits Marketing is responsible for brand identity, digital marketing, social media, and the Wits Shop. Marketing also manages the University website CMS and offers website training and website and graphic design services free of charge to faculties and schools.
