SAQA evaluation

What is it?

If you are applying for postgraduate study at Wits with a degree from outside South Africa, you need to provide proof of evaluation of your qualification by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).

SAQA assesses your qualification and confirms where it sits within South Africa's National Qualifications Framework (NQF).

Why do you need it

SAQA verification ensures:

  • Your qualification is legitimate and recognised in your home country
  • The institution is accredited
  • We understand what level your qualification equates to in South Africa (e.g., Honours, Master's, PhD)

How to apply

Step 1: Apply online

Go to www.saqa.org.za and navigate to: Evaluation of Foreign Qualifications > Apply for an evaluation

足球竞彩app排名: You must apply for your own evaluation. You cannot use a third party.

Step 2: Submit your documents

SAQA will guide you through what's needed, typically:

  • Certified copies of your qualification certificates
  • Academic transcripts showing subjects and marks
  • Proof of accreditation of the institution (if required)
Step 3: Pay the evaluation fee

Fees vary depending on your qualification level. Check the SAQA website for current costs.

Step 4: Wait for results

Processing times vary. Apply well in advance of Wits application deadlines.

What qualifications need SAQA evaluation?

  • Any degree/diploma from a university outside South Africa
  • Professional qualifications that form part of a national education system
NOT required for:
  • Professional memberships or designations
  • Short courses, workshops, or certificates
  • South African qualifications

Processing time

Allow several weeks for SAQA evaluation. Start this process early: it is often the bottleneck in postgraduate applications.
