Interns

SCIS offers an internship programme for Wits master's and PhD students, providing valuable exposure to academic research. This six-month, part-time programme allows interns to work closely with our senior research team within one of our research programmes, gaining hands-on experience in high-level research and analysis.
SCIS is not currently hiring interns. Any future opportunities will be announced when available.

Gontse Mabaso is a research intern for the 
Ofentse Maselesele is a Communications Intern at the Southern Centre for Inequality Studies. He holds a BA in Digital Media Design from the University of Johannesburg. He has worked as a Graphic Design Trainee at Tshimologong Precinct, collaborating with the Digital Creative Hub team, which led Fak'ugesi (the African Digital Innovation Festival). Ofentse is a multimedia designer and visual artist who aims to contribute to the development of the creative and cultural industries in South Africa and across the continent.
Rheyna is an intern within the 
Khanimamba Masuluke is a Project Management Intern at the Southern Centre for Inequality Studies. He recently completed his Master of Commerce in Inequality Studies at the University of the Witwatersrand. He also holds an Honours degree in Media Studies from the University of the Witwatersrand and a Bachelor of Arts in Media Studies from the University of Limpopo. He has participated in a social development project as a research consultant and report writer for the Barloworld Empowerment Foundation. Additionally, he served as a media research intern for an advertising agency. His research interests lie at the intersection of representation, social justice and policy, sustainable development, and human rights.
