- Wits University

Members of the Wits community are invited to a candlelight ceremony to remember Olorato Mongale, who passed away under tragic circumstances on 25 May 2025.

The ceremony takes place at 6pm today, Thursday, 29 May 2025, outside the Great Hall.

The University extends its deep sympathies to the family and friends of Olorato, a 30-year-old postgraduate student, who was found dead on Sunday, just two hours after leaving her home with an unknown individual. The South African Police Service is investigating the matter we are hopeful that they will bring the perpetrator/s to book soon.

The University strongly condemns this femicide which has robbed the world of a young, talented, vibrant woman who had her whole life ahead of her.
