Geometallurgy Lab

The Geometallurgy Lab is a dedicated geometallurgy and data-analytics facility, linking mineral characterisation, bench-scale processing, and sustainability metrics from ore to product. Core capabilities span automated mineralogy using the Tescan TIMA for image analysis; sample preparation (e.g., crushing, screening, splitting); major and trace element whole-rock geochemistry; and Python-based modelling for resource estimation and predictive geometallurgy. 

Processing testwork includes heavy liquid separation for density-based characterisation; bench-scale flotation for sulphide and oxide systems with reagent screening and locked-cycle options; and leaching across particle sizes, from fine-particle bottle rolls to continuous stirred-tank (CSTR) and column reactors for coarse-particle and percolation leach studies.

Tests offered

  • Heavy liquid separation (HLS) sink–float curves and cut-density profiling
  • Bench-scale flotation: single-stage and locked-cycle; grind–recovery and reagent screening
  • Fine-particle leaching: bottle-roll cyanide/acid/alkaline systems with kinetic sampling
  • Continuous leaching: CSTR reactors with residence-time control and solution balance
  • Column leaching: coarse-particle and percolation tests with irrigation and aeration control
  • Comminution and feed prep: crushing, screening, riffle splitting, pulp density and pH control
