The BEdHons in the field of Science Education is designed for practising teachers who want to strengthen their subject knowledge, engage critically with science pedagogy, and develop advanced expertise in Life Sciences or Physical Sciences.

Curriculum

Full-Time ×ãÇò¾º²ÊappÅÅÃûs

(a) Compulsory core courses:

• EDUC4129A Educational Theory, Research and Enquiry I (Semester I)
• EDUC4205A Key Issues in Science Education Research (Semester II)
• EDUC4196A Research Design (Semester I)
• EDUC4193A Research Project (Full Year)

(b) One course in the first semester from the following:

• EDUC4206A Chemistry and Physics for Educators I
• EDUC4208A Life Science for Educators I

(c) One course in the second semester from the following:

• EDUC4207A Chemistry and Physics for Educators II
• EDUC4209A Life Science for Educators II

Part-Time ×ãÇò¾º²ÊappÅÅÃûs

In the first year of part-time study

Compulsory Core Courses

• EDUC4192A Educational Theory, Research and Enquiry I (Semester I)
• EDUC4205A Key Issues in Science Education Research (Semester II)

In the second year of part-time study

(a) Compulsory Courses

• EDUC4193A Research Project (Full year)
• EDUC4196A Research Design (Semester I)

(b) One course in the first semester from the following:

• EDUC4206A Chemistry and Physics for Educators I
• EDUC4208A Life Sciences for Educators I

(c) One course in the second semester from the following:

• EDUC4207A Chemistry and Physics for Educators II
• EDUC4209A Life Sciences for Educators II

Both part-time and full-time classes take place on-campus between 4-7pm on weekdays

Entry Requirements

• A Bachelor degree in Education, or
• A Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) with an overall average of 65% or more. The PGCE has to be accompanied by a Bachelor's degree or B.Tech in the sciences.

For applicants with PGCE qualifications, please take note of the additional criteria:

• 60% or more in Theory of Education / equivalent Educational Theory course.
• 65% or more on Natural Sciences Senior Phase.
• 65% or more on either Life Sciences Methodology FET or Physical Sciences Methodology FET.
• ×ãÇò¾º²ÊappÅÅÃûs should have completed and passed Teaching Experience (WIL) in either Physical Sciences Methodology FET or Life Sciences Methodology FET

For applicants with BEd degrees, please take note of the additional criteria:

• • 60% or more in Education IV and 65% in Being a Teacher, including:
  • Senior Phase/Further Education and Training Teaching: 65% or more in either Life Sciences IV or Physical Sciences IV  and Teaching Physical/Life Sciences.
  • ×ãÇò¾º²ÊappÅÅÃûs should have done Teaching Natural Sciences as well.
