Supernumerary Application Requirements
Dear applicant
Thank you very much for your enquiring about the self-funded (Honorary Supernumerary) studies in the Division of Emergency Medicine University of the Witwatersrand, (WITS), and Johannesburg South Africa.
- All submitted document must be in English.
 - There is no online application.
 - All forms must be completed in black ink.
 - Only the forms you receive from the university Supernumerary Administrator Officer (SAO) should be completed.
 - You need to verify relevant document with ECFMG.
 
Application form for honorary studies at WITS+ the following supporting documents:
- Signed motivational letter from the application
 - Two signed recommendation letters.
 - Certified Copy of passport. (certified with in the last three months)
 - Certified copy of Medical degree in English, (certified within last the last three months
 - Academic Transcript in English from all universities enrolled at.

Please be advised that this can take to 1 year to complete.
Approval steps (time line)
- Application form + supporting documents emailed to SAO by Application.
 - HOD Approval letter is then obtained from HOD of Department of Emergency Medicine by SAO
 - CEO Approval letter is then obtained from the hospital you will be allocated to by SAO.
 - Once 1,2and 3 above are obtained an offer of position, letter of support for your study permit Application + estimate of fees for the 5 years duration of study will be issued by WITSAND sent to you by the SAO
 - Foreign workforce FWMP approval can then be applied for by the application NB: This can only be processed once the above 1-4 are complete
 - Once ALL the of above 1-5 plus an ECFMG report are obtained, application for registration with the health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) is made by the applicant.
 - You may only register when all above is completed and you have passed Part1 FCEM Examination.
 
Academic Requirements:
- Part 1 (Primary) College of Medicine of SA, FCEM examination must have been passed prior to arrival in SOUTH AFRICA. (see CMSA website).
 - Year 1 of 5 years will be a rotation though the ED’s (Wits rotation) and a DIPPEC must be passed in that year.
 - Registrars rotations will commence once 1 and 2 above are complied with ( primaries and Dipec passed)
 - Year 2 -3 = research, MMed to be completedand submitted for marking, plus ultrasound accreditation.
 - Year 4 -5 = rotations and part 2 (FCEM) Examination at the end of year 5
